What changed for Microsoft 365 E3 on July 1, 2026?
Two things landed together. The list price went up 8%. The suite also picked up capability it did not carry before. Microsoft announced both as one global price and packaging update.
New list prices
| Microsoft 365 E3 | $36.00 to $39.00 user/month, up 8% |
|---|---|
| Microsoft 365 E3 (no Teams) | $27.45 to $30.45 user/month, up 11% |

| Office 365 E3 (no Teams) | $14.45 to $17.45 user/month, up 21% |
Microsoft’s published figures, effective July 1, 2026. Existing customers remain on current pricing until renewal. Every other enterprise suite moved on the same date: the rest of the rows sit on Microsoft 365 enterprise plans.
What Microsoft 365 E3 gained
What Office 365 E3 gained
Different suite, shorter list. Worth checking which one you actually hold before reading the row above as yours.
Microsoft’s footnote on what the Copilot Chat enhancements are: “Enhancements include inbox and calendar awareness and access to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint agents.”
The capabilities began rolling out in June 2026. Each tenant gets at least 30 days notice in Message Center before the change reaches it, with rollout complete by August 1, 2026. Defender for Office 365 (P1) and Intune Plan 2 already show up in the feature list above.
What is the difference between Microsoft 365 E3 and E5?
The two suites share the productivity apps, the cloud storage figure, the Windows Enterprise license, the Copilot Chat entitlement. E5 sits $21.00 higher for what it stacks on top.
| Microsoft 365 E3 | $39.00 user/month, paid yearly. $30.45 without Teams |
|---|---|
| Microsoft 365 E5 | $60.00 user/month, paid yearly. $51.45 without Teams |
| The gap | $21.00 user/month either way |
Annual commitment on both. The full feature lists sit side by side in the plan comparison above.
What E5 adds
When E3 plus add-ons is the other option
Several of the parts E5 bundles are sold on their own, so an E3 tenant can buy only the ones it needs. Microsoft prices the Purview Suite at $12.00 user/month and the Defender Suite at $12.00 user/month as of July 1, 2026. The note on the E5 card above states that the Purview Suite requires Microsoft 365 E3.
Those two alone come to $24.00, already past the $21.00 gap. Teams Phone and Power BI Pro license separately as well. Which way it lands depends on how many of the E5 parts you would turn on.
How much cloud storage does Microsoft 365 E3 include?
1 to 5+ TB per user. The range is a tenant default rather than a plan tier, so moving up to E5 does not change it.
| Cloud storage per user | 1 to 5+ TB |
|---|---|
| Initial OneDrive allocation | Up to 5 TB per user, based on the default quota for the tenant |
| On Microsoft 365 E5 | 1 to 5+ TB per user. The same figure |
| Education tenants | Storage allocations may be limited |
Eligible enterprise and government cloud customers should work with their Microsoft representatives for additional storage requirements.
Microsoft’s wording, from the plan comparison on this page.
So storage is not the reason to move between the two plans. Where the files live still matters: OneDrive per user for personal working files, SharePoint (P2) team sites for anything shared. Both are in the feature list above.
Enhance your Microsoft 365 experience
1. Copilot Chat is available at no additional cost to all Microsoft Entra ID users with an eligible Microsoft 365 subscription. An Azure subscription is required to use agents and is priced on a metered basis. Availability may vary by market and license.
2. Microsoft Teams-integrated features require a Teams license to enable but can be used without Teams via web or other in-app experiences.
3. Microsoft Teams license required.
